IT Marketing: Blogging for B2B Marketing?

For the past few years, you have heard so much about blogging that you’re reluctantly concluding that now might be the time to join the parade. Yes, blogs do have a place in the IT marketers’ arsenal, but only under the right circumstances.

Blog Basics

A blog is a personal diary. A daily pulpit. A collaborative space. A political soapbox. A breaking-news outlet. A collection of links. Your own private thoughts. Memos to the world. Your blog is whatever you want it to be. There are millions of them, in all shapes and sizes, and there are no real rules.

In simple terms, a blog is a web page made up of short, frequently updated articles, or “posts,” arranged chronologically like a journal. New stuff shows up at the top, so your visitors can read what’s new. Then they comment on it or link to it or email you. Or not.

nnSince blogs were launched, almost five years ago, they reshaped the web, impacted politics, shook up journalism, and enabled millions of people to connect with others and have a voice on the Web.

Video blogging tips: How you talk into a camera?

Questions/Answers

Yea when I watch videos after I make a video, it seems very mundane.

Also, it’s really hard for me to stare and look at a camera and act like I am talking to a person. I don’t know why. Any tips?

Also, I’m not good at acting. People say I do not have enough “feeling” when acting.

So I do not know how to make my blog any more interesting, or how to look directly into the camera for long periods of time without feeling weird.

Three Blogging Tips

Guest Writer..  Pete

This article isn’t intended to provide you with a host of blog marketing tips, but simply to guide those of you who have either just started or have been blogging for a while but have some bad habits.

Bad blogging habits are simple to get into, and one of the worst is to leave your ‘About’ page unchanged. You know the page: it is provided by Wordpress as standard and a whole host of bloggers leave it unchanged. Why they do this is known only to them, because this is the first page that a large number of first-time visitors to a blog check out, and the reason why many of them leave without looking further.

All you have to do is to say a tiny about yourself, who you are, and what your blog is about, why you feel qualified to write a blog about this topic and how you can be contacted. If your blog covers a particular niche, rather than being simply a log of personal comments, then your potential readers will want to know why they should believe what you state by reading your credentials on the subject.

There is nothing wrong with having a personal blog about your personal thoughts on things, but if you are presenting yourself as a form of expert on a specific topic, then you’ll have to persuade readers that you have a right to do so. You should use your ‘About’ page to do that.
